Training

Northshore Cranes’ education division offers Rigger, Signalman, (API/General Industry) Crane Operator, Overhead Hoist, and Forklift Operator training. Training meets OSHA, ANSI, ASME, USCG, ABS, API, BOEM, BSEE, General Industry and manufacturers specifications.

Northshore Cranes’ training programs will guide students new to the industry through the difficult process of becoming qualified in any one of these fields and guide experienced students through their re-certification process.

Crane Operator Classifications

Class 1 Crane Operator

  • Has no restrictions or limitations

Class 2 Crane Operator

  • Is limited to making lifts under 50% of cranes lifting capacity at any given angle/radius
  • Must be supervised with lifts over 50% of cranes lifting capacity at any given angle/radius
  • Is limited to loading and unloading vessels in calm seas only
  • Must be supervised with personnel lifts

Class 3 Crane Operator

  • Is limited to making lifts under 50% of cranes lifting capacity at any given angle/radius  (With direct supervision only)
  • Is limited to loading and unloading vessels in calm seas only (With direct supervision only)
  • Cannot make personnel lifts under any condition (With or without direct supervision)

Training seminars will take anywhere from 8 to 10 hours with a cost of $400.00 per seminar. Overhead Hoist and Forklift training is held every Wednesday, Rigger/Signalman training with crane introduction is held every Thursday and Crane Operator completion training is held every Friday, at our facility. Crane Operators are required to attend both Thursdays (Rigger/Signalman with crane introduction) and Fridays (Crane Operator completion training) at cost per seminar. Crane Operators with prior certifications must bring that proof to class with them. Crane Operators with no proof of prior certifications can only be classified as a Class 3 Crane Operator (Trainee), providing they pass the course. Crane Operator upgrades can be obtained after 40 successful lifts on the crane to be operated by that operator. Documenting 1 lift per day for 40 work days and properly logged on a 40 lift log sheet given. A Class 1 Crane Operator must witness and sign off on each lift. Upon completion, the 40 lift log sheet can then be faxed, mailed or e-mailed to training@northshorecrane.com , along with other paperwork required for the upgrade. Crane Operator upgrade cost is $100.00 per upgrade with 3 year certifications from seminar original test dates. Seminars can be held at customer location at customer request. Certification cost will drop to $200.00 per seminar, but training time, travel time and mileage will apply. Hotel stay and per-diem may also apply.
