Training

Our education division offers crane operator, rigger, overhead hoist and forklift operator seminars. Courses are taught under API-RP-2D’s latest addition, ABS, ANSI Standards, ASME B30 Rules and OSHA Regulations including the latest OSHA 29CFR 1926.1400 regulations.

Our training programs guide employees through re-certifications and those new to the industry through the difficult process of becoming qualified in any one of a number of fields.

Operator Classifications

Class 1 Operator:

  • No restrictions or limitations.

Class 2 Operator:

  • Limited to making lifts under 50% cranes lifting capacity at any radius.
  • Limited to loading and unloading boats in calm seas only.
  • Supervised with lifts over 50% cranes lifting capacity at any radius.
  • Supervised with personnel lifts.

Class 3 Operator:

  • Limited to making lifts under 50% cranes lifting capacity at any radius.
    (With direct supervision only)
  • Limited to loading and unloading boats in calm seas only.
    (With direct supervision only)
  • Cannot make personnel lifts under any condition.
    (With or without direct supervision)

Base courses cost $400.00 and training takes 8 to 10 hours per course. Crane operators will be required to take the rigging/signalman course in addition to the operators’ course, at a cost of $150.00. Overhead Hoist and Forklift seminars are held every Wednesday, Rigging / Signalman seminars are held every Thursday, and Crane Operator seminars are held every Friday at our facility. Seminars can be held on job site as per customer’s request. Crane operators that don’t have prior certifications can only be classified as a class 2 or class 3 crane operator, providing they pass the course. Operator upgrades can be obtained after 40 successful lifts on the cranes to be operated. Documenting 1 lift per day for 40 days and properly logged with a class 1 crane operator witnessing and signing off on the lifts. The 40 lift log can be faxed and/or mailed to Northshore Crane & Equipment, upon completion, for upgrades. Operator upgrade cost $100.00. All certifications are good for 3 years.
